A study on the mixing between the B0-B0bar and Bs-Bsbar systems

We study the mixing between the B0-B0bar and Bs-Bsbar systems from a quantum-mechanical point of view. By extending the well-known Lee-Oehme-Yang formalism, we obtain a non-hermitian effective Hamiltonian governing the time evolution in the four-dimensional subspace spanned by the orthonormal flavor eigenstates and we provide expressions for the mass eigenstates. Also, we show that, under certain conditions, the effects of the B0-B0bar and Bs- Bsbar mixing in the semileptonic CP asymmetry become apparent by the existence of a mechanism of CP-violation transference. Finally, we analyze the way the mixing between both meson systems predicts an unusual temporal behavior of the decay rate, characterized by the presence of beats for specific decay channels.
