Resumen:
In the past few years, a movement of deaf artists has been strengthening in Argentina. These artists have grown in popularity thanks to social media platforms as well as the organization of different artistic events in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In spite of the fact that within the Argentine deaf community these have been considered important steps in the recognition of their culture, there is still little knowledge about the deaf artistic movement outside the community. Our research team aims to contribute to the knowledge of Argentine Sign Language (LSA) and the deaf culture in Argentina from an interdisciplinary point of view that merges linguistics, art, and literary translation. In this presentation, we make the first interdisciplinary approach to the translation of Julio Cortázar?s short story entitled Continuidad de los parques (1964) into Argentine Sign Language (Morales, 2019). We present the creative process of translating this short story by the deaf translator himself, Diego Morales, an Argentine native signer of LSA who is a renowned deaf artist, a leader of the deaf community, and a LSA teacher. Then, we contrastively analyze the source and the target artistic production with the intention of discussing, specifically, more creative uses of the signing space in Diego Morales? final production in LSA.
