Resumen:
The South American tomato pinworm Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) was originally described as Phthorimaea absoluta by Meyrick (1917) from a male specimen collected in Huancayo, Perù Perú (http://www.cabi.org/isc/datasheet/49260 accessed 13th June 2017). Thereafter, Tthis species is now widespread in Argentina, where it was first recorded in 1964 (Bahamondes & Mallea, 1969). Later , and in the 1980s it is reported as a major tomato pest in most other Latin American countries. In these areas, it is reported as a major tomato pest since the 1980s (Silva, Bueno, Caldeira Lins, & van Lenteren, 2015).
