Breaking Newton's Third Law in active systems

A unidimensional SPP model whit non-reciprocal interactions is studied in detail both, by computational simulations and coarse-grained equations. We demonstrate that by breaking the action-reaction symmetry it is possible to obtain global polar order from non-polar local interactions. This also leads to new ways of coarsening and the formation of aggregates whose speed, larger than the active speed of the particles, is enhanced by noise.
