Classification of situations of violence and of the actors encountered in armed conflict

The purpose of this talk is to examine the new armed conflicts under the traditional categories of International Humanitarian Law. Overcoming the limitations of traditional warfare, new situations of international armed conflicts and non-international armed conflicts seem to have challenged an efficient application of treaties in force. What are these obstacles and to what extent the existing legal sources can provide an answer to deal with those situations? By assessing some specific case studies, I will attempt to offer an answer to these questions during my intervention.
