Resumen:
What is Photonics? The science of manipulating photons: generation, emission, transmission, modulation, etc. Key devices: photonic crystals, materials with aperiodicity in their refractive index. This periodicity generates a band structure for photons, which allows to control the propagation of photons inside the crystal.HowPhotonics can be applied to photocatalysis?Photonic crystals (such as inverse opals) have the capability of trapping light within a certain range of energy. This way, if TiO2 is structured as an inverse opal, its light absorption properties can be enhanced, and then the efficiency of photocatalytic processes can be augmented.
