Resumen:
Expository discourse is used to explain Organic Chemistry in University lectures. In this work, teachers’ discursive practices in a first course were analysed, focusing on dialogues’ patterns used to introduce new information, and chemical language including representational systems. Ten Organic Chemistry teachers participated of this empirical study. Grounded theory methodology, multiple-case study design, and sociolinguistic tools were applied within a social constructivist framework to analyze the discourse. A pattern representing the structure of discourse in Organic Chemistry classes was developed, suggesting potential tools for both researchers and reflective practitioners.
