Resumen:
The framework of this study is given by the vast discussion on the relationship between photography -and other cultural manifestations- and reality, history and memory. Particular interest is given to the ways in which social artefacts inquiry from the present into the past, at times painful and traumatic. The core of this study is the analysis of the relationship between fine art photography and memories of repression evoked by it. I focus on a group of artists that use photography as the chosen medium to build a body of work that disturbingly questions the effects of a traumatic past. This project takes a small corpus within the photographic works that explore the political violence in Argentina: those works that include words on -or around- the photographs. Images with texts as backing, texts from others, manuscripts, erased words, illegible ones, old texts, judicial wording, intimate writings. In any case, texts as co-protagonists of the photographs.
