Resumen:
We present the project for the next wide field energetic gamma ray observatory in the southernhemisphere, SWGO (Southern Wide-field Gamma-ray Observatory). This observatory will consist of an arrayof thousands of particle detectors located at an approximate altitude of 4800 m above sea level. It is designedto indirectly measure gamma rays and cosmic rays from 100 GeV to hundreds of TeV. SWGO will complementcurrent ground-based detectors such as HAWC and LHASSO, located in the northern hemisphere. It will have alarger particle collection area and be in a location that will allow a better view of our galaxy. Among its scientificobjectives is to provide information that helps understand the acceleration processes of relativistic particles ingalactic and extragalactic sources, monitor transient phenomena above 100 GeV, study the variability at differenttime scales, and characterize the flow of cosmic rays in its range of energies, among many others.
