Resumen:
The colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most frequent cancer type in our country; represent the 12% of total cancer deaths. However, it is one of the most preventable tumors due to its slow progression and its early stage detection increases the cure chances up to 90%. Currently, it does not exists any molecular biomarkers for CRC early detection. Krüppel-like factor 6 (KLF6) is a tumor suppressor related with several types of cancers and little is known about it behavior in CRC. Our aim was to seek for a potential role of KLF6 deregulation in CRC diagnosis. We establish the frequency of KLF6 subcellular expression in 37 human CRC through immunohistochemistry and we found that 83% of the cases showed a generalized KLF6 cytoplasmic expression. However, nuclear localization revealed a more gradual expression, even showing null expression. We correlate these data with CRC pathogenic characteristic and we found a positive correlation between KLF6 nuclear expression intensity and the tumor stage (r= 0.36) and a negative correlation with tissue differentiation (r= -0.33). In addition, the null nuclear expression showed low proliferation index (p
