Resumen:
The excellent biocompatibility of zirconium (Zr) makes this metal a candidate to be used as biomaterial. A native or electrochemically growth surface oxide layer  decreases the release of metal ions to the biological medium. The aim of this work is to study the behaviour of Zr as a material for the manufacture of osseointegrable implants. The behaviour of Zr anodized at different potentials in 1 M H3PO4 solution was studied. The oxide grows in "islands",that increase their size when  increasing anodized potential. Oxides obtained were characterized from the corrosion point of view after 24 hours and 30 days of immersion in simulated biological fluid (SBF). It was found that the corrosion resistance increases with increasing applied potential. Phosphorus (P) was found in anodized samples, and calcium (Ca) and P in samples immersed in SBF for 24 h. This result is important because it would be indicative of the presence of hydroxyapatite (calcium phosphates...).
