Resumen:
The main limitation for the application of Mg-alloys as biomedical devices is the hydrogen evolution that results from their corrosion in aqueous media. In order to decrease the release of hydrogen from Mg-based metals, a number of strategies have been proposed [1]. Anodizing is one alternative, but many of the protocols used included hazardous compounds (e.g. chromates or fluorides) or high current densities. In the present study AZ91D Mg alloy was anodized with an environmentally-friendly low cost process, with the aim of controlling hydrogen evolution generating a potential material for orthopaedic devices.
