Intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes are influenced by luminal antigens

Previous studies in immunodeficient rats have shown a significant increase in the CD8+ intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (iIEL) population. The aim of the present study was to discriminate the homodimeric from the heterodimeric CD8+ iIEL population. Weanling Wistar rats were fed with a protein free diet, which contains dextrin, during 15 days and then orally refed with a 20% casein diet during 21 days (E).
