Resumen:
Natural flavanoids have biological, pharmacological, and medicinal properties. They prevent a wide variety of diseases, which involve free radical-mediated damage in pathologically generated proccesses due to their antioxidant activity. In addition, their structure-activity relationship is well established. Among the flavonoids, the extract the flavolignan silibinin obtained form blessed milk thistle is used in medicine in cases of liver diseases. The synthesis and characteization of the vanadyl-silibinin complex and the determination of the possible improvement of the antioxidant and antitumoral properties of the flavonoid are reported. The complex VOsil was obtained and its characterization was perfomed by elemental and thermogravimetric analysis, Uv-vis, diffuse reflectance, EPR and FTIR spectroscopies. The radical scavenger activities of VOsil for superoxide, DPPH, ABTS and OH were greatly improved with respect to silibinin. The antitumoral and antioxidant properties were discussed and compared with previous results obtained in our laboratory for vanadyl(IV) complexes of hesperidin and chrysin.
