Resumen:
Carbon based materials are largely used in the field of energy storage. These materials have great economic advantages when used as electrodes for batteries and supercaps. In this regard it is highly desirable to develop effective methods to produce carbon materials from renewable resources that have high electrochemical performance and limited environmental impacts. In this work, different agro-industrial wastes, such as: walnut pulp, malt, rice husk and nutshell were used as starting material for obtaining biochar. Then, a systematic and comparative study was performed considering not only the area and porosity of these materials, but also their application as active materials for batteries. Here, we show the results obtained using a well-designed and optimized protocol for the obtention of biocarbons from biochar. Briefly, the pristine material was calcinated at low temperatures for the desired time. After that, chemical activation using KOH, H3PO4 and H3BO3 was employed. Depending on the starting material, the chemical activation was selected and optimized. The as-obtained activated biocarbons were further used as electrode materials in li-ion and lithium sulfur batteries
