Resumen:
This paper reviews draw together all available information from the 70s to nowadays about zooplankton and ichthyoplankton inhabiting the Patagonian shelf-break front aiming of establish a holistic baseline of knowledge about both groups. Zooplankton information is focus on copepods, hyperiid amphipods, and euphausiids because of their abundance and relevance in the food webs. General patterns of species diversity and biogeographic zonation of these zooplankton groups is described, their key species are defined, and information about their seasonal distribution, abundance and life-history traits is provided. Regarding ichthyoplankton, information about the distribution and abundance of eggs and larvae of each species as well as about the nictemeral migration patterns is included. Larvae, in particular, are also associated to the reproductive characteristics and life cycles of the adults inhabiting the area. Zooplankton and ichthyoplankton composition and abundance along the shelf-break is compared with that of the adjacent shelf, and also an updated species checklist of both groups is included as an appendix. We finally go over the open questions and prospects for the future work on zooplankton and ichthyoplankton along the shelf-break.
