Chemical speciation of size-segregated aerosol samples collected at an urban location in central Argentina

In this work, the partition of elements and metals for several size fractions was presented. A detailed studied of the modes of the distribution revealed an interesting pattern useful to associate them with the sources. Airborne aerosol particles in the quasi ultrafine fraction are believed to exhibit enhanced biological activity in comparison with larger-sized particulate matter due to their deep penetration and deposition in the respiratory system, therefore its significant contribution to total mass for most elements (including toxic metals) is relevant to raise awareness of the government agencies regarding air pollution.
