Resumen:
The aim of this work was to prepare poly(vinyl alcohol)/pyrogallic acid (PGA) supramolecular networks integrating silver sulfadiazine (SSD) loaded-crosslinked casein micelles (CCM) for application as a topical drug delivery system in wound healing. Trihydroxibenzoic acid was used to modify the CCM aiming to improve their dispersibility into the supramolecular matrix. These nanoparticles-containing supramolecular materials could be applied in a liquid state at 37 °C on the damaged zone and then, in situ gelation can occur at the skin temperature (33 °C). The supramolecular binder, PGA, can act as a therapeutic drug due to the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of this compound. The controlled diffusion of PGA from the supramolecular matrix on the injury changes the viscoelastic properties of the network which could trigger the release of the SSD-loaded CCM. Then, the CCM can be degraded by the presence of matrix metalloproteinases, thus achieving the specific release of the pharmaceutical molecule at the wound site.
