Resumen:
Dps, the most abundant protein during stationary growth phase, in Salmonella enterica is required for resistance to reactive oxygen species produced by the host during infection. It has been reported that in Salmonella the dps expression is controlled by RpoS and Fur proteins. However, regulation and function of Dps remains to be well understood. In the present work we demonstrated that activation of the complex RcsCDB regulatory system increase the dps expression during the Salmonella exponential growth. In addition, we established that such dps up-regulation produces high levels of H2O2 resistance. This phenotype allows the bacteria to avoid the reactive oxygen species killing at early stages of the growth, protecting in this way its genetic material.
