Resumen:
Climate models project significant increases in the intensity and frequency of droughts (defined as periods of anomalously low water availability) for large land areas on Earth during the 21st century. The occurrence of droughts is a serious concern in the world, especially in arid and semi-arid regions. Objetive: To develop, in the north Andean Patagonia, a robust tree-ring chronology network covering the last millennium, additionally providing the basic material for future stable isotope works. To reconstruct the seasonal drought history over the last millennium. To describe drought extremes through the identification of intra-annual density fluctuations (IADF), in their spatial and temporal distribution, and based on the long-lived Austrocedrus chilensis trees. To determine which climatic factors are related to their formation by providing an analysis of the key synoptic-scale climate drivers responsible for historical occurrence.- To combine continuous and discrete information to achieve a more complete reconstruction of the episodes of drought in northern Patagonia
