Resumen:
In postnatal domestic cats GnRH agonists suppressed fecal concentrations of sexual steroids and delayed puberty. The aim of this study was to describe the gross and microscopic morphometric effects of a single administration the GnRH agonist, deslorelin acetate, on the male gonads of postnatally treated cats. Sixteen postnatal male (n= 16) kittens were randomly assigned to one of the following treatment groups within the first 24 hours of birth: Deslorelin acetate 1.6 mg (AG; n=8) or Control which remained untreated (CO; n=8) and castrated after onset of puberty. Gonads were gross and histologically assessed. Sertoli cells also were examined immunohistochemically. Comparisons between treatments were carried out by Student´s t test. Gross testicular wet weight and volume as well as gonadosomatic index were significantly lower in AG than in CO. Epididymal sperm motility and morphology were normal in all but two AG cats that had too few sperm to be evaluated. Germinal epithelial height (μm; 39.68+0.92 vs. 72.7+1.2; P
