Resumen:
Glasses doped with transition metals represent valuable alternatives for radiation applications, like radiation dosimetry and shielding. Five innovative materials consisting of amorphous lithium borate glasses doped with different concentrations of Ag, Zn and Cd have been successfully synthetized and characterized and the present study reports on the radiological properties of these doped glasses, as characterized by dedicated Monte Carlo simulations. To this aim, three independent Monte Carlo codes have been implemented to obtain the mass attenuation coefficient as a function of the incident photon energy along with the corresponding photon and secondary particles' fluence within the glasses for different incident X-ray energies. Full characterizations in terms of mass attenuation coefficients, electron stopping power, and radiation fluence have been obtained for the different doped glasses. Moreover, noticeable agreements have been obtained among the different Monte Carlo codes for the five glass formulations.
