Resumen:
The XVI Latin American Conference of Analysis by X-ray Techniques (SARX 2018) and the VI Conference onMedical Physics at La Frontera (JFMF 2018) were held on November 4-7 2018 in Pucon, Araucania, Chile, organized and managed by Centro de Física e Ingeniería en Medicina CFIM (Centre on Physics andEngineering in Medicine) of Universidad de La Frontera, UFRO.The SARX Conference, an international event held in South America, gathers the best researchers from all overthe world in order to promote the exchange of experiences related to the development X Ray techniquesmethodologies and research. It was held for the first time during the 80s by a group of researchers fromCordoba, La Plata, and Buenos Aires, led by Dr. Alberto Riveros de la Vega. It began as a local seminar amongArgentinean X Ray specialists, becoming since 1990, an international conference conducted in differentcountries in Latin America. The venues were in La Falda (1990), Argentina; Punta de Tralca (1994), Chile;Cosquin (1996), Argentina; La Falda (1998), Argentina; San Pedro (2000), Brazil; Nova Friburgo (2002),Brazil; La Falda (2004), Argentina; Arica (2006), Chile; Cabo Frio (2008), Brazil; Puebla (2010), Mexico; SantaMarta (2012), Colombia; Carlos Paz (2014), Argentina; Petropolis (2016), Brazil; and recently in Pucón (2018),Chile.Moreover, the JFMF Conference is a relevant event proudly and completely organized by the Medical PhysicsMaster´s program of Universidad de la Frontera, throughout the six past bi-annual editions. The event intends tocongregate medical physicists, MDs, medical technologists, engineers and other professionals related to anyMedical Physics area.More than 90 attendees participated in the event promoting scientific and academic exchanges amonginternational recognized experts, researchers, professionals, technicians, and students. The Organizing Committees selected the best works presented during the meeting motivating the authors tosubmit their manuscripts to the peer-reviewed SARX-JFMF 2018 special issue in Applied Radiation andIsotopes which holds rigorous standards. Hence, a total of 21 original contributions were finally accepted in thisspecial issue.Special acknowledgments are addressed to Universidad de La Frontera for its complete support, especially theRector Dr. Eduardo Hebel Weiss, Vice Rector for Research and Postgraduation Dr. Renato Hunter and otheracademic authorities for supporting the event with the necessary grants.SARX-JFMF 2018 organizers appreciate the significant participation of all attendees, mainly the invitedspeakers and Organizing and Scientific Committees? members. Special appreciation is worth mentioning to thekind professional support received by the Applied Radiation and Isotopes Editorial Board. The SARX-JFMF 2018 special issue in Applied Radiation and Isotopes was a great challenge and the highesthonor for us willing to thank to Dr. Richard Hugtenburg for trusting our proposal. We are confident that this effort aimed at publishing in this prestigious journal shall be maintained by the nextSARX?s organizers.
