Resumen:
Keywords: Palynostratigraphy, Palynozonations, Late Paleozoic, Talchir Formation, IndiaThe Talchir Formation belongs to the Permian Gondwana Sequence in India and its age assessed herein in the light of palynostratigraphic record integrated with radiometric datings. The lower part of this formation in the Well 131 drilled in the Penganga area of Wardha Valley Coalfield (Maharashtra State, central India) was analysed. Two assemblages characterized by the stratigraphic distribution of 23 spores and 35 pollen grains taxa. Palyno-association I (PI) recognized in the basal core samples, yielded few Punctatisporites spores and monosaccate pollen grains. Palyno-association II (PII) from the overlying samples, are characterized by more diversified and abundant spores and pollen grains. Several guide taxa in PII such as, Concavissimisporites grumulus, Converrucosisporites confluens, Cyclogranisporites gondwanensis, Verrucosisporites andersonii, Latusipollenites quadrisaccatus, Marsupipollenites striatus, Pakhapites fusus, Striatoabieites multistriatus, Vittatina subsaccata, Vittatina vittifera are consistent with palynozones radiometrically constrained to the latest Pennsylvanian?early Cisuralian in Argentina, Brazil, Africa, and Australia. Therefore, we attribute the Talchir Formation to the Kasimovian-Gzelian (Carboniferous) up to lower Asselian (Permian) based on the respective age given to PI and PII associations. A correlation with the Potonieisporites neglectus and Plicatipollenites gondwanensis Zones of Tiwari & Tripathi, respectively improves the stratigraphic correlations of the Indian palynozones with other zones of the Carboniferous-Permian Boundary across Gondwana.Publicación: Vlachos, E.
