Detailed geochemical and isotopic studies were carried out on volcanic rocks collected along an E-W profile from Ramos Mexias to W of Comallo in the Rio Negro Province, Patagonia, 4I0S. Rocks are of Pliocene to Quatenary age and comprise trachybasalts and tephriteslbasanites which carry upper mantle and crustal xenoliths. Xenolith-free basaltic andesites are present W of Comallo, half way to Ingeniero Jacobacci.
