Resumen:
Genetic annotation is critical to understanding how genes work. This is especially important when annotating genes in SARS-CoV-2 virus to develop treatments and vaccines. Such as the spike (S) protein gene, which helps the virus enter host cells, and others related replication and release. Genetic annotation involves both experimental and computational methods. We predict on Gene Ontology (GO) that organizes genes into categories: Molecular Function (MF), Biological Process (BP), and Cellular Component (CC). However, for viruses with high variability and high mutation rates, we need machine learning methods to predict gene functions from sequences. In this context, we introduce the FGGA (Factor Graph GO Annotation) software to annotate SARS-CoV-2 genes, which only requires a set of well-annotated viral sequences for its training.
