How does metallicity affect the populations of RSG? Using new grids ofstellar models spanning from the low Z of I Zwicky 18 to super solarones, I will first discuss the expected properties of the RSGpopulations from a stellar evolution point of view. I will then comparethe theoretical results with observations of RSG populations in variousenvironments.
