We describe the behavior of the IR emission lines that appear in the Kand L band spectra of Be stars and discuss the physical properties ofthe circum- stellar envelopes based on the classification schemeproposed by Mennick- ent et al. (2009). We found that for stars of GroupI, Pfund and Humphreys lines form in an optical thick region, while forGroup II stars, Humphreys lines form in optically thinner regions. Thetransition between Groups I and II could be interpreted in terms of theevolution of the circumstellar disc.
