Resumen:
Thedynamics of an ecological system are closely related to the processesthat occur in the adjacent environments. Consumers living interrestrial habitats can take advantage of allochthonous resourcesthat originate in highly productive aquatic environments, and thatmay enable their populations to reach higher densities than thosesupported by land resources only. In turn, these subsidized consumersmay influence the dynamics of other consumers? populations. Theterrestrial landscape that surrounds the estuary of Bahía Blanca isvery diverse given its location at the intersection between theEspinal and Pampa ecoregions, but also because of the modificationsrelated to human activities, and the presence of the coastalenvironments increases the complexity of its ecosystems. The ecologyof the continental mammalian communities living around the estuaryand coastline beyond the estuarial limits have been poorlyinvestigated, but it is known that many species, mainly carnivores,make use of coastal environments, and the presence of populations ofendemic rodents was reported. In this chapter, we review the effectof the coastal environment on the ecology of large- and medium-sizedmammals. Additionally, we discuss the importance of the anthropicmodifications of these coastal areas on the conservation of thecoastal mammal community.p { margin-right: -0.01cm; margin-bottom: 0.25cm; direction: ltr; color: #000000; line-height: 115%; orphans: 2; widows: 2; background: transparent }p.western { font-family: "Calibri", sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; so-language: es-AR }p.cjk { font-family: "Calibri", sans-serif; font-size: 11pt }p.ctl { font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 11pt; so-language: ar-SA }a:visited { color: #954f72; text-decoration: underline }a:link { color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline }
