Resumen:
The widespread use of virtual worlds has motivated teachers to exploit innovative features of interactive 3D environments to maximize students? learning experience by means of virtual courses. One of the main challenges in distance learning is the lack of tools that teachers need to use. Typically, virtual worlds are used for educational purposes; however, they fail to be specially adapted for dealing with a virtual course. In this paper, we present KTeacher, a kinect-based tool to support the development of virtual courses. To validate KTeacher, we designed a virtual course and compared it with the same course offered with a widely used tool in distance education. After conducting both courses, we measured aspects related to usability, functionality and perception of KTeacher from the student and teacher viewpoints through a survey. Finally, the results show that students´ opinions were considerably positive as for the sense of immersion and interest generated by KTeacher. Moreover, teachers were satisfied with the possibility of easily editing the classes developed with KTeacher
