Resumen:
Dung Analysis and its Correlation with Three Different Species of Extinct Megafauna in the Southern Argentinian Puna Jorge G. Martínez1, Jaime E. Powell2, and María F. Rodríguez3 This paper presents the results and implications of the analysis of various samples of dung referred to extinct pleistocenic megafauna (ca.19,600-12,500 RCYBP) (Martínez et al 2004, 2007). These samples are composed exclusively of plant remains recovered from stratigraphic excavations at Peñas de las Trampas 1.1 site (PT1.1), a rockshelter located at 3.582 m a.s.l. in Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca), southern argentinian Puna. The extreme dryness of this environment allowed an exceptional preservation of these ancient organic remains.
