Resumen:
This is the first study including molecular data from Stenodrepanum Harms, a rare, endemic and monotypic genus from arid and salty areas of west-central Argentina. A phylogenetic analysis of the plastid trnL-F intron and spacer region was used to give insights into the evolutionary placement of S. bergii within the Caesalpinieae. We included a broad range of published sequences from Caesalpinieae and an outgroup from Cassieae. Thirty-three morphological characters investigated by Simpson et al. (2003) were optimized on the molecular cladogram for a subset of taxa. According to our analyses, Stenodrepanum appears related to the American genus Hoffmannseggia and the South American endemic genera Balsamocarpon and Zuccagnia. Here, we also report recent collections of the species. CONICET and SECyT-UNC are acknowledged for financial support.
