Resumen:
The experimental and theoretical investigation of diverse aspects of breakup reactions dates back to several
decades. A renewed interest in the subject has been the consequence of recent experimental facilities capable
of producing beams of unstable nuclei. In this scenario, breakup channels are expected to play an important
role related to the increased probability of their occurrence derived precisely from the small binding energies
that are involved. In general, the motivation for the study of breakup reactions recognizes di®erent origins.
One line of research has been connected to the use of measured breakup cross sections at extremely small
relative energies as a tool for the determination of the corresponding inverse radiative capture reactions of
astrophysical relevance. The connection between breakup and fusion channels at energies close to the barrier is
also a matter of interest due to some con°icting results on whether breakup enhances or hinders the pathway to
fusion, or the conditions under which either behavior might prevail. Finally, the mechanism that is involved in
reactions leading to breakup may deserve in itself an e®ort towards its better understanding. In this framework,
coincident measurements of breakup fragments in reactions induced by beams of stable, weakly bound 6Li
and 7Li projectiles on the spherical 144Sm nucleus have been started at the Tandar Laboratory in Buenos
Aires. In these initial studies special emphasis has been placed in the procedures that are required for a
complete characterization of the reactions, starting from the measured asymptotic magnitudes. The reported
measurements are complementary to studies of elastic and inelastic collisions and to the determination of barrier
distributions from quasielastic scattering, currently underway for the same systems
Aires. In these initial studies special emphasis has been placed in the procedures that are required for a
