Resumen:
The spirit of this book lies in considering bone pathologies as a scourge that affectsmany people in the world. And not only to those patients who suffer them, but todoctors and scientific researchers who, day by day, dedicate their time and effort toimprove the existing conditions for treatment.Actually, the most important pathologies that afflict the bone system are painful, chronic, and difficult to access and treat. Osteoporosis, cancer and infections oncediagnosed do not have a good prognosis. Added to that there are not many tools toalleviate the symptoms and the difficult living conditions that they bring. For this reason, the contribution of this book aims to highlight one more alternativeaiming to find tools that help to improve the management of bone diseases. Thus, the silica nanoparticles are presented as promising and friendly for this purpose.Their study, the exploitation of their versatility in terms of drug loading and the use of the bioactive properties in bone are a niche to going on deepen in scientific research that tries to discover new ways to treat bone pathologies. Surface lability to functionalize with bone therapeutics, antibiotics and biomolecules in general arises as potential point to investigate. In addition to this, the use of canine animal models that unfortunately suffer so much from osteosarcoma and all the tools that today allow to model tumors would be an ideal complement to fulfil this objective.Fortunately, in our laboratory we are dedicated to this work. And I hope thatwith this material, intended to allow everyone to discover the potential of amorphous silica that has not yet been deeply explored, we can contribute in the short term from science so that bone pathologies do not represent a scourge. And in this way helping those who suffer in this regard to find relief.
