ABSTRACT: Stratigraphical correlations between Asghillian diamictites from the Andean Beltand Brasilian craton are analyzed. Also discussed is their possible correlation with the lower Paleozoic diamictites and related deposits of the Sierra Grande Formation, and Tandilia,Ventania and Malvinas Basins, is discussed. In all these basins, the base of the diamictites is an unconformity of continental extension that several previous workers interpreted this unconformity as tectonic in origin. We propose to assign the diamictites and the related basal unconformity to the late Ordovician glacial event.
