Resumen:
The Andes portray an impressive variety of topographic and climatic conditions that result in vast and diverse cryosphereWe argue that no other mountainous region on Earth contains such a diversity of cryospheric features and ice massessmall tropical glaciers above 5000 m (in the tropical Andes from Colombia to Bolivia) clean ice to rock glaciers forming large continuous areas (semi-arid Andes of Chile and Argentina)and also extensive temperate glaciers and icefields calving into the sea (southwestern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego)Outside Antarctica, the Andes include the largest glacierized area in the Southern HemisphereThe largest extension of tropical glaciers on EarthOne of the greatest areas covered by rock glaciers (permafrost features), mostly in the central Andes of Chile and Argentina The greatest extension of seasonal snow and mountain permafrost in this part of the globe
