Resumen:
This work presents a new analytical approach to determine homogenization-based constitutive models for the mechanical behavior of elastomers reinforced with aligned cylindrical fibers subjected to finite deformations. The idea is to make use of a novel and fairly general class of microgeometries for which the effective stored-energy function can be computed exactly to a large degree of generality: ‘infinite-rank laminate’ microgeometries. The resulting effective stored-energy function is solution to a Hamilton-Jacobi equation where the initial volume fraction of fibers and the macroscopic deformation gradient tensor play the roles of time and space, respectively. As a first application of the proposed formulation, we derive an exact result for the macroscopic response of fiber-reinforced elastomers made up of Mooney-Rivlin matrix and fiber phases. The main theoretical and practical aspects of this result are discussed.
