Resumen:
We present a novel approach to determine the onset of cavitation in hyperelastic solids subjected toarbitrary 3D loading conditions. The idea is to devise a hierarchical dilute distribution of vacuousimperfections within a hyperelastic solid in such a way that it is possible to compute exactly the resulting homogenized behavior. The onset of cavitation ---corresponding to the event when the initially dilute porosity becomes of finite size--- can then be extracted directly from the homogenized response. The accuracy of the proposed analytical results will be assessed by comparisons with exact solutions available from the literature for radially symmetric cavitation, as well as with finite element simulations.
