{FeNO}7 porphyrin complex [Fe(TPPS)(NO)]4-: structure and reactivity in organic and aqueous media

Iron water-soluble porphyrins have been long used as biomimetic compounds for modelling heme-enzymes active sites. In this regard, the anionic porphyrin [FeIII(TPPS)]3─ and its coordination complexes has been repeatedly chosen as a suitable water-soluble platform for bioinorganic chemistry studies. In this work we report for the first time the crystal structure of the water-soluble nitrosyl complex [FeII(TPPS)(NO•)]4─ along with that of oxodimeric ferric species [µ-O-([FeIII(TPPS)])2]8─. Its reactivity in organic media is discussed and compared to previous studies carried out in water.
