Resumen:
Our research interest is focused in the use of transition metal complexes with non-innocent ligands in key chemical transformations, such as bond activation or proton reduction. Nitrosyl complexes are described as {MNO}n where n stands for the number of electrons in the metal d and π* NO orbitals. In a previous work the activation of carbon-halogen bonds by a paramagnetic rhodium complex {RhNO}9 with a PCP pincer type ligand was reported.[1]Herein we report the synthesis and characterization of a new complex {RhNO}9 1?+ but with a PNP pincer type ligand. The paramagnetic nature of the one-electron reduced species 1?+ was confirmed by EPR and by the broad resonances occurring in 1H NMR. In FTIR the complex exhibits a strong band in the IR spectrum at 1650 cm-1 due to vNO. Also the molecular structure of compound 1?+ was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction.Reduction of {RhNO}9 1?+ gave a {RhNO}10 complex and its reactivity with O2 and water has been studied.
