Resumen:
The synthesis gas can be produced from In general, four distinct processes can be utilized to perform the conversion of methane to syngas natural gas and consists mainly of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, and can be used to obtain different chemical products: ammonia, methanol, synthetic fuels via the Fischer-Tropsch technology, aldehydes, oxoalcohols, ethylene glycol, and many other products. This review aims at providing an overview of the technological routes for hydrogen and syngas production. In general, four distinct processes can be utilized to perform the conversion of methane to syngas: steam reforming, CO2 reforming, autothermal reforming and catalytic partial oxidation. Taking into account that new catalytic alternatives that may be competitive with conventional processes or even improve them have been recently developed, this review intends to examine the different processes both at an industrial level and in applied research for the syngas production from methane. Therefore, the objective of the review is to offer an overview of a subject that is in continuous expansion, where catalysis plays a fundamental role.
