The proposed work examines the sociolinguistic aspects of two heritage communities (a German and a Swiss German) in Misiones, Argentina to shed light at the respective heritage language development up until today. Starting with a look at the initial waves of immigration, factors contributing to the language shift from the heritage language to the societal language (i.e. Spanish) are explored.
