The present study is referred to the application of mordenite (MOR), synthesized via secondary (seeded) synthesis method on cordierite honeycomb monoliths and subsequently exchanged with cobalt ions, for NO reduction with CH4 in excess of oxygen. The simple 24 h hydrothermal synthesis process produced a well-crystallized mordenite layer on cordierite substrates with a high zeolite loading (50% wt.). Crystals developed with a preferential c-orientation maintain in most of the cases their individuality. The working conditions of Co exchange procedures would induce to the formations of Co oxide clusters. The occluded Co in those islands was not accessible for NO adsorption. For the reaction conditions used in this work, the NO and CH4 conversions for the Co-MOR structured catalysts are comparable to those of Co-MOR powder.
