Resumen:
Structured catalysts are currently used in many chemical reactions. Different types of materials such as monoliths, meshes and foams are used as substrates. A novel example of substrates are ceramic papers, prepared by linking ceramic fibers forming a three-dimensional network. This feature allows them to adapt to various geometries and gives them versatility and ease of handling, among other advantages [1]. On the other hand, ethylene is a valuable compound because it is a key intermediate for polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) manufacturing. Current ethylene production processes employ high operating temperatures, resulting in large energy consumption. An interesting alternative for producing this light olefin is the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (ODE). This reaction is exothermic and without thermodynamic constraints, which allows obtaining a better global energy balance [2]. In this work Ni and Ni-Ce were incorporated to the ceramic papers. These papers were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Laser Raman Spectroscopy (LRS). The oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane was used as test reaction to evaluate their catalytic behavior.
