Resumen:
The book deals with the problem of vulnerability of rural dryland communities to global environmental change, and explores the cases of the Elqui river basin (Region of Coquimbo, Chile), and the Mendoza river basin (west-central Argentina). For both cases, the analysis starts with the manifestations of climate change that are anticipated by the climate scenarios; then, the vulnerabilities of farmers and ranchers are identified, according to the production systems and the typology of producers themselves; their adaptive strategies are analyzed for finally estimating the future vulnerabilities of these producers on the basis of adaptive strategies that could be implemented.
