Resumen:
In this work it was studied the behavior of Pt/SiO2, and Pt/MgO catalysts in the hydrogenation of acetophenone. The results have shown that it is possible to obtain, high selectivities, near to 90%, towards the PE when the systems Pt/MgO are used. The addition of potassium hydroxide improves the selectivity to 1-phenyl-ethanol (PE), but diminishes the reaction rate. The very high selectivity in 1-phenyl-ethanol (PE) observed with Pt/MgO catalysts is attributed to the presence of basic sites which improves the adsorption and activation of the C=O. For the Pt/SiO2, and Pt/MgO catalysts, the reaction rate increases with the increasing of the particle diameter
