Resumen:
The thermal transformations of kaolinite in kaolinclays include dehydroxylation to Metakaolin (MK) at around 600 °C, followed bythe transformation to a low crystallinity phase: a silico-aluminate spinel(SAS) at around 980 °C. Finally mullite (M) is formed at temperatures between1220 and 1300 °C. In this work we use Al K-edge XANES as a probe to study thealuminum local environment to establish the possible mediators of phasetransformations including phases with low crystallinity non-detected by other techniques.
