Resumen:
Five members of a family of long-chain acyl-CoA synthetases have been cloned and characterized. Their tissue distribution, subcellular locations, fatty acid preference and transcriptional regulation strongly suggest that each isoform plays an independent role in providing acyl-CoA substrates for specific pathways of complex lipid synthesis and of fatty acid oxidation. Much work remains to be done to identify the specific roles and regulation of these acyl-CoA synthetases
