Contribution to the geological knowledge of the “El Arriero” porphyry and its alteration zone, the La Huerta range, San Juan, Argentina. New data concerning the geology of El Arriero dacitic porphyry and its alteration zone, La Huerta range, Western Pampean Ranges, is reported. Works carried out in the area demonstrate that hydrothermal alteration and ore deposition are directly related to the gondwanic magmatic activity. Two main alteration/mineralization episodes are recognized: a restricted potassic – phyllic episode overprinted by a more intense and widely extended pervasive propylitic one. Disseminated Py ± Ccp ± Mag as well as Qtz ± Kfs + Py ± Ccp ± Mo and Cal + Py veinlets are related to the hydrothermal alteration. Nevertheless, several factors do not allow considering this area of economic interest.
