Square Wave Voltammetry: An Alternative Technique to Determinate Piroxicam Release Profile from Nanostructured Lipid Carriers

A new, simple and fast electrochemical method has beendeveloped to determine the release profile of piroxicam, anonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, loaded in a drug deliverysystem based on nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs). For the firsttime, the samples were analyzed by square wave voltammetry, asensitive electrochemical technique. The piroxicam electrochemicalresponses allow us to propose a model to explain the experimentalresults and, on the base of these, determine the amount of drug intothe NLCs formulation in the time. In vitro drug release studiesshowed prolonged drug release, up to 5 days, releasing the 60% ofthe incorporated drug. The proposed method shows potential as apromising and stable alternative for the study of different drugdelivery systems.
